Richard C. Sullivan Jr.
Richard C. Sullivan Jr., joined Hazel & Thomas, P.C. after graduation from law school, and became a part of the 1999 merger with Reed Smith Shaw & McClay LLP that formed Reed Smith LLP. A partner who served as co-chairman of Hazel & Thomas' Litigation Section, Mr. Sullivan is now the Practice Group leader of Reed Smith's Virginia/Washington D.C. Trial Group. He focuses his practice on commercial litigation in federal and state trial and appellate courts. Significant areas of his litigation practice include intellectual property, telecommunications, construction law, lender liability, general banking law, employment law, professional liability and business tort litigation.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, Mr. Sullivan served as acting director of the National Peace Academy Campaign from 1981 to 1984. He directed this public interest organization which successfully lobbied Congress and the White House, resulting in the passage of legislation creating The United States Institute of Peace.

A magna cum laude graduate of Amherst College, Mr. Sullivan earned his J.D. from the University of Virginia. He is admitted to the Virginia and District of Columbia Bars, and is a member of the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, and The Virginia Bar Association. He is vice-chair of the Council of the Virginia ADR Joint Committee, and has served as a member for many years on the Virginia State Bar/Virginia Bar Association Joint Committee on Alternative Dispute Resolution. Mr. Sullivan represents the 19th Judicial Circuit on the Virginia State Bar Council. He is a past chairman of the Virginia State Bar Special Committee on the Resolution of Fee Disputes, and is currently a member of the State Bar Access to Legal Services Committee. In addition, Mr. Sullivan is a long-term Board Member and past President of Legal Services of Northern Virginia, and a Board Member of the Potomac Legal Aid Society.

M. Bruce Wallinger
Bruce Wallinger is a mediator and arbitrator who practices with Hoover Penrod PLC in Harrisonburg. He has been associated with the American Arbitration Association since 1996, and is listed on its Commercial and Employment Panels. In 2003 he was placed on the Large Complex Case Panel, a recognition reserved for the AAA's most skilled and proven neutrals. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America in its Alternative Dispute Resolution section. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and has more than thirty years of experience in litigation and various forms of alternative dispute resolution. His law practice focuses primarily on employment law and commercial litigation. He is a 1972 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1968 from the University of Virginia College of Arts and Sciences.

Bruce has been active in bar activities, having served as President of the Young Lawyers Division of the Virginia State Bar, Chair of the Sixth District Disciplinary Committee, President of the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys, member of the Executive Committee of The Virginia Bar Association, and President of the Harrisonburg-Rockingham County Bar Association. He is a Fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation and the American Bar Foundation. He is a member of the Council of the Virginia Joint Committee on Alternative Dispute Resolution and a member of the ADR Section of the American Bar Association.

Samuel S. Jackson Jr.
Samuel S. Jackson Jr. is an attorney and mediator in solo practice in McLean, Virginia. During 2000-01, he was president of the Virginia Mediation Network, the state's association of mediators. He is a member of the Advisory Council of the Department of Dispute Resolution Services of the Supreme Court of Virginia and has served on several of its committees. Sam has been co-chair of the Fairfax Bar Association's Professionalism Committee and of its Conciliation Program. Since 1994, he has been an adjunct professor of law at Georgetown University Law Center, where he teaches negotiation. He currently chairs the Newsletter Subcommittee of the Virginia ADR Joint Committee.

Karen L. Keyes
Karen L. Keyes is a graduate of George Mason University (JD 1990) and the College of Charleston (BS in psychology, magna cum laude, 1984). Ms. Keyes is a licensed attorney in Virginia and Certified as an Advanced Family Law Mediator by the Virginia Supreme Court. She has been in private practice as a family law attorney and mediator since 1991. She also serves as a Commissioner in Chancery for the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit of Virginia and has received Collaborative Family Law training.

Ms. Keyes recently established her own practice in Arlington, Virginia. She handles a broad spectrum of family law issues in the role of mediator, commissioner, and attorney. Having taught Alternative Dispute Resolution as an Adjunct Professor at George Mason School of Law, she is a frequent lecturer to civilian, military, and professional organizations, on issues relating to family law and mediation.

In addition to serving as Chair of the Virginia Alternative Dispute Resolution Joint Committee, Ms. Keyes is also a Past Chair of the Arlington Bar Family Law Section and a Past President of the Northern Virginia Chapter of the Virginia Women Attorneys Association.

Hon. Rosemarie P. Annunziata
Judge Annunziata began her practice of law in 1978 and was elected to the Fairfax County Circuit Court in 1989 and to the Court of Appeals of Virginia in 1995. Prior to her election, she served on the Fairfax County Planning Commission and acted as counsel and hearing officer for the Fairfax County Civil Service Commission and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

She is a member of the International Association of Women Judges, Board of Managerial Trustees and served on the Education Committee for the 2003 NAWJ Conference in Washington, D.C. She is an active member of the Virginia Bar Association's Committee on Special Issues of National and State Importance, the National Association of Women Judges, the Executive Committee of the Judicial Conference of Virginia, the Dean's Advisory Council of the Washington College of Law at American University. She also served as Chair of the Judicial Education Committee of the Judicial Conference of Virginia, and the judicial member of the Virginia State Bar Family Law Section, Board of Governors.

Judge Annunziata is listed in Who's Who in American Law, has been recognized in "Fighting for Public Justice: Cases and Trial Lawyers That Made A Difference," published by Trial Lawyers for Public Justice, 2002, the recipient of the Fairfax County Human Rights Commission 1997 Human Rights Award, and the recipient of the Fairfax County Commission for Women Special Achievement Award for Women, 1981.

Member of ADR in 1979 associated with Christian Legal Society. Joined ADR Committee in 1985 as member of The Virginia Bar Association, working part time as a mediator since 1980.

Specialty interest includes conflict resolution involving churches, and individual Christians in all walks of life. Executive Director of the Metropolitan Washington Christian Conciliation Service 1981 to 1991. Practiced Christian mediation as a sole practitioner since 1991 and currently is working in the Commonwealth Christian Conciliation Service in Tidewater, Virginia.

P. Jean Baker
Ms. Baker oversees daily operation of the AAA's Washington, D.C., regional office. The D.C. region includes Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. In addition to her management activities, she conducts presentations for public and private sector audiences on a variety of ADR-related topics and assists large and small businesses with the design and implementation of ADR programs. Ms. Baker also serves as AAA's liaison to the American Bar Association and is a member of AAA's Good Governance Committee. She has extensive experience as a mediator and a trainer.

Ms. Baker is currently an adjunct professor at Georgetown Law School. She teaches a course on Legal Negotiation and Mediation Advocacy. Since 2003, she has co-coached the Georgetown Law School team that participates in the annual ABA Dispute Resolution Section's Representation in Mediation competition. The Georgetown team has won the Region 3 title three consecutive years (2003-2005).

She has served as Vice-Chair of the Special Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee of the ABA Public Contract Law Section since 1999. She is former chair of the ADR Committee of the National Energy Bar Association. In addition to authoring numerous articles concerning use of ADR in a variety of contexts, she is a contributing author to the ABA monograph Alternative Dispute Resolution: A Practical Guide for Resolving Government Contract Controversies.

Ms. Baker received her Juris Doctor degree from California Western School of Law and her Bachelor of Science degree (summa cum laude) from Wright State University. Her inclusion since 1996 as an ADR professional in Who's Who in American Law serves to highlight her contributions to the practice and theory of Alternative Dispute Resolution.

In addition to her legal background, Ms. Baker received a Master of Business Administration degree from Northeastern University and held a variety of management positions at the following major corporations: General Electric, Racal Dana, and Fluke Manufacturing.

Robert N. Baldwin
Robert N. Baldwin is the former State Court Administrator for Virginia and served in that capacity from 1976 until 2005. Prior to assuming his duties with the Supreme Court of Virginia, Rob was Assistant Dean and Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Richmond School of Law. Among his duties as State Court Administrator is the administration of the court system's efforts to incorporate Alternative Dispute Resolution services within the judicial system.

Rob is a member of the Board of Directors of the State Justice Institute, past President of the Conference of State Court Administrators, past Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the National Center for State Courts, past member of the Board of Directors of the American Judicature Society, and he is a Virginia Law Foundation Fellow.

Carroll E. Dubuc
Carroll E. Dubuc is an attorney with Carroll E. Dubuc & Associates, P.C. in Arlington. He has over 38 years as a civil trial lawyer in substantive areas of aviation, product liability, insurance, antitrust/unfair competition trademark, partnership bankruptcy, employment and international claims and appellate matters. Represented airlines, aircraft manufacturers/component manufacturers, insurance companies, electrical equipment manufacturers, hotel chains, banks and other lawyers. Acted as Lead Counsel in several multidistrict protracted litigations involving disputes of $200 million to $300 million. also outside counsel to three international airlines in litigation, corporate and regulatory matters.

Morna P. Ellis
Ms. Ellis holds a J.D. from the University of Richmond, an M.Ed. from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a business degree from Glasgow, Scotland. She is a dispute resolution professional with substantial experience in business disputes involving consumer, contractual, employment, and real estate issues and in domestic relations disputes involving custody, visitation, child and spousal support, property distribution and other related family issues. She has served as a neutral in more than 1000 cases referred both from the courts and the private sector and has assisted a number of courts to establishing a mediation program.

Ms. Ellis is a member of the Virginia State Bar, Va. Joint ADR Committee Council, Metro Richmond Women's Bar Association, Metro Richmond Family Law Bar Association, a Practitioner Member of the Association for Conflict Resolution (formerly Academy of Family Mediators), and serves as the administrator for Virginia Mediation Network. She has experience in the education field working with adults with disabilities and is a former lecturer in business administration. She is approved by the Supreme Court of Virginia to mediate cases at all court levels and to teach all courses required for mediator certification in Virginia. She is a frequent speaker on dispute resolution. Ms. Ellis founded Commonwealth Mediation Group, Inc. in 1996 to provide professional conflict management services, including mediation, arbitration, and training.

Frances Fite
Frances Fite has been practicing family law in the Commonwealth of Virginia for over 25 years. She is a principal in the law firm of Fite & O'Brien, Ltd. at Tysons Corner in Northern Virginia. Since 1991 she has been active as a mediator in family law and has been certified since 1993 as a mediator by the Supreme Court of Virginia. Her current certification is Circuit Court - Family. Ms. Fite's mediation affiliation is with the McCammon Group.

At Fite & O'Brien, Ms. Fite often represents clients who are participating in the mediation process with other mediators. She also represents clients who choose to go through divorce utilizing the relatively new process known as collaborative law. She is currently the co-chair of the Northern Virginia chapter of the Collaborative Law Society.

Roderick B. Mathews
Rod Mathews is a partner in the Alternative Dispute Resolution, Healthcare, and Government Relations and Administrative Law practice groups in the Richmond, Virginia, office of the multi-office law firm Troutman Sanders LLP. Prior to his current private law practice, Mr. Mathews was in solo practice, was senior counsel in the Richmond office of Reed Smith LLP, and served as Senior Vice President, Law and Government Relations Officer for Trigon Blue Cross Blue Shield of Virginia (now Anthem Corporation).

He practiced law previously as a partner in the Richmond office of Christian & Barton LLP. His litigation and administrative law practice there included representation of life, health, disability, property and casualty, and professional liability insurers in state and federal courts and representing clients in matters involving law, regulation and politics

Joan S. Morrow
Professional Experience

Since 1994, Joan Morrow has limited her professional practice to mediation, handling complex business and employment law disputes. She was formerly a litigation partner with the Minneapolis firm of Rider, Bennett, Egan & Arundel, where she worked from 1978 to 1994 with an emphasis on employment litigation and counseling and insurance coverage disputes. In 1994, she founded her own firm dedicated to dispute resolution. She relocated to Virginia in 2001 to become an East Coast-based mediator, mediating in the mid-Atlantic states in person and nationally via videoconferencing.

Dispute Resolution Experience and Training
Mrs. Morrow has conducted over 1,000 mediations in commercial and employment cases. Over the last several years, her resolution rate exceeds 96%. She has mediated cases involving all aspects of employment law (including discrimination, sexual harassment, defamation, tortious interference and non-competes); law firm, professional firm and business dissolutions; intellectual property; breach of contract, fraud and breach of fiduciary duty; trust and estates, and malpractice. James Q. Pope
Jim Pope is a mediator, facilitator, trainer and consultant in conflict management and other subjects related to family law disputes, workplace conflict and employee relations. He is a member of the Virginia Bar, and a principal in the Arlington, Virginia, law firm of Pope & Pope. He has litigated civil and criminal cases in County, State and Federal courts, with emphasis on employment claims, domestic cases, contract disputes, and personal injury suits. He formerly served as prosecutor for the City of Falls Church, Virginia, primarily trying cases in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

Jim is an adjunct professor of mediation and arbitration at Catholic University Columbus School of Law, and has developed and conducted conflict management and mediation trainings for numerous public and private agencies and organizations, including the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the United States Department of Justice, the United States Department of Agriculture, the United States Air Force, the Virginia Supreme Court, the Virginia Mediation Network and the Northern Virginia Mediation Service. Hon. Diane M. Strickland
Diane Strickland is a retired chief judge of the Twenty-third Judicial Circuit. After 15 years on the bench, she joined The McCammon Group where she serves as a certified mediator handling cases involving personal injury, medical malpractice, product liability, employment, construction, commercial and family disputes.

She is a member of the Virginia Code Commission, the Board of Governors of The Virginia Bar Association, the Steering Committee of the Boyd-Graves Conference and the Virginia Mediation Network. She served on the first Advisory Board for the Supreme Court's Office on Dispute Resolution and has served on both state and local ADR committees for more than a decade.

She is a Fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation and a former member of the Judicial Council of Virginia and the Editorial Board of the Virginia Benchbook. She is a recipient of the 1999 James R. Almand Award from the Virginia Community Criminal Justice Association, a Distinguished Service Award in 2000 from the Virginia Supreme Court Department of Dispute Resolution Services, and recently received the 2003 Joseph V. Gartlan Award from the Virginia Association of Community Services Boards.

She received her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina and her law degree from the University of Virginia. She practiced civil litigation with Woods, Rogers, Muse, Walker &Thornton and Strickland & Rogers before becoming a judge in 1987.

Hon. Lydia Calvert Taylor
Judge Lydia Calvert Taylor is a Judge on the Norfolk Circuit Court since 1988. She has served as Judge of the Norfolk General District Court, and as Assistant City Attorney, City of Norfolk, Virginia - civil litigation (state and federal court), including commercial, personal injury, and civil rights defense work; corporate in-house counsel for City Council, City Treasurer, Commissioner of Revenue, School Board, Chief of Police, and other municipal entities and officers; criminal (misdemeanor) prosecutions.

Judge Taylor is a graduate of Sweet Briar College (B.A., History 1962), Old Dominion University (M.A., History 1973); and the Marshall-Wythe School of Law (J.D., 1980). She was a Fulbright Scholar (1968 - 1969), University of Chile, Santiago, Chile

Geetha Ravindra
Geetha Ravindra received her law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1992. Following graduation she became Manager of Case Administration for the Private Adjudication Center (PAC), an affiliate of Duke University School of Law. At the PAC, Geetha was primarily responsible for the administration of the Dalkon Shield Arbitration Program. She is a Virginia certified General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court mediator.

Ms. Ravindra has served as Director of the Department of Dispute Resolution Services at the Supreme Court of Virginia since 1996. In her role as Director, Ms. Ravindra's responsibilities include: to develop within the judicial system a range of dispute resolution options; to encourage and promote the use of ADR in all judicial circuits with information and technical support; to certify mediators and mediation training programs; to encourage community mediation and investigate funding sources for such programs; to provide training and education to the Bar, public, and judiciary on ADR processes and advocacy in mediation; to evaluate the effectiveness of state-sponsored dispute resolution programs; to support conflict resolution education in the public schools; to develop legislative initiatives to support ADR programs, to maintain contact with dispute resolution programs in the state as well as serve as a clearinghouse for information on ADR programs.

In 1999, Ms. Ravindra developed Guidelines on Mediation and the Unauthorized Practice of Law pursuant to a grant from the State Justice Institute. In 2001, she worked with the James City County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court to study the Appropriate Timing of Cases Referrals to Mediation pursuant to an SJI grant. In April of 2002, Ms. Ravindra provided mediation skills training to retired Supreme Court Judges in Chennai, India. Ms. Ravindra served as co-chair of the Court ADR Section of Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR) from 2001 - 2003 and was a member of the ACR Unauthorized Practice of Law Task Force. She is a member of the Virginia State Bar- Virginia Bar Association Section on ADR, a member of the Virginia Mediation Network and a member of the Virginia State Bar Fee Dispute Resolution Task Force. She was recently appointed as co-chair of a Subcommittee of the Court ADR Committee of the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution. The new Subcommittee is responsible for developing court ADR materials and publications and coordinating web-based information pursuant to a three-year grant from the Hewlett Foundation. Ms. Ravindra also recently received a grant from the Department of Criminal Justice Services to develop a model truancy mediation manual.

Barbara Hulburt
Barbara Hulburt is a mediator, trainer, and organizational consultant and has been active in the field of dispute resolution since 1988. Currently Director of the Training and Consulting Program of The McCammon Group, she is an attorney by training and worked for the Commonwealth of Virginia as Director of the Department of Dispute Resolution Services, Supreme Court of Virginia (1991-1996). In that capacity, Ms. Hulburt led the development of the first set of Standards of Ethics and Professional Responsibility for certified mediators in Virginia in 1993.

Much of Ms. Hulburt's work has involved improving relationships and productivity in the workplace through training which enhances negotiation and communication skills, and emphasizes conflict prevention and management. Ms. Hulburt was the chief designer of, and trainer for, Virginia's state employee mediation program and since leaving the state has done similar work for private entities. In addition, she has served as a facilitator of communication in projects ranging from public policy debates to corporate strategic planning.

A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Swarthmore College and Stanford Law School, Ms. Hulburt has trained around the U.S. and in Latin America. She has received numerous awards for her outstanding skills as a trainer and her commitment to the field of dispute resolution.

Mark E. Rubin
Mark Rubin is a lawyer, consultant and mediator. In his capacity as legislative counsel for a number of professional and trade associations, he has an extensive background in government relations, public policy, health care, insurance, employment, professional malpractice, commercial and administrative law.

Rubin was appointed to the Administrative Law Advisory Council by the Code Commission of the Virginia General Assembly and to the Interagency Dispute Resolution Advisory Council by the Governor of Virginia. In addition, he has served as chairman of the Better Business Bureau Foundation of Virginia, Inc. (Dispute Resolution Center).

Holding an Advanced Certification in Civil Mediation from the Supreme Court of Virginia, Rubin has mediation experience in securities, employment, commercial, personal injury and professional malpractice.

Rubin has conducted seminars and workshops on a number of ADR topics for legal, business, and community groups. He serves as an adjunct professor teaching mediation at the Schools of Law at the College of William and Mary, the University of Richmond, and the University of Virginia.

Rubin received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was Phi Beta Kappa. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law. He practiced law with Shuford, Rubin and Gibney, P.C., from 1978 to 2003 and now focuses his efforts exclusively on consulting, facilitation, mediation and arbitration with The McCammon Group.

D. Alan Rudlin
D. Alan Rudlin is a partner at Hunton & Williams in Richmond, where he has specialized in alternative dispute resolution, complex commercial, class action, mass tort and environmental litigation. Alan has mediated cases, and participated as counsel in many resolutions of complex and mass tort litigation through ADR processes. He has handled post-arbitration challenges in courts to overturn improperly rendered awards. He has advised business lawyers in drafting ADR clauses as part of ongoing contractual negotiations and other business arrangements, so parties could take advantage of efficiencies of ADR before a dispute occurred, and has advised colleagues on different types of ADR where disputes have occurred, and suggested which ADR approach may be most beneficial given the nature of the dispute. He has served as an advocate in numerous ADR proceedings.

Alan has completed over 150 hours of basic and advanced mediator training and teaching, and has been a featured speaker on numerous programs addressing ADR topics. He has co-authored several textbooks, and published numerous articles on ADR matters.

He serves on the Board of Editorial Advisors for The Environmental Counselor (Business Laws, Inc.), the Toxics Law Reporter and Class Action Litigation Report (The Bureau of National Affairs).

Alan has been an adjunct professor on ADR in complex litigation at T.C. Williams School of Law; Marshall-Wythe School of Law; University of Virginia School of Law; and Duke University Law School.
