Health Law Section
The Health Law Section of The Virginia Bar Association was founded in 1992 to bring together members of the Bar Association with a special interest in the practice of health law.
Through regular, quarterly meetings open to all Health Law Section members, the Health Law Section Council provides a forum for fellowship and for issues in the legislative, educational and public service areas consistent with the VBA's goals of serving the bar and the public, promoting integrity, professionalism and excellence in the legal profession, working to improve the law and the administration of justice, and advancing collegial relations among lawyers.
Over the years, the Health Law Section has, through its members, engaged in numerous activities to promote these laudable goals. These activities include community service projects, legislative initiatives, continuing education programs, and publications. The Health Law Section is always looking for new members who share the commitment to serve the public and better the profession and who welcome the opportunity to improve their practice and enjoy association with their peers.
The Virginia Bar Association has become affiliated with the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA).
Leading health law to excellence through education, information, and dialogue, the American Health Lawyers Association is the nation's largest, nonpartisan, 501(c)(3) educational organization devoted to legal issues in the healthcare field. AHLA provides resources to address the issues facing its active members who practice in law firms, government, in-house settings and academia and who represent the entire spectrum of the health industry: physicians, hospitals and health systems, health maintenance organizations, health insurers, managed care companies, nursing facilities, home care providers, and consumers. By becoming affiliated, the VBA and AHLA seek to facilitate the dissemination of information useful to their respective members, to increase and enhance educational and networking opportunities for their members, to increase the value of membership in each organization, and to provide a foundation for future initiatives to share resources, reduce costs and enhance services, without increasing risks or costs of either organization.
