The Virginia Bar Association is a voluntary professional association for attorneys. Two of the VBA's most visible areas of effort are law reform and public service, such as the veterans initiative. Members present and benefit from educational programming. The organization nurtures collegiality through conferences and social events.
Virginia is unusual in that it has both a voluntary statewide bar association -- the VBA -- and a mandatory bar group to which attorneys must belong -- the Virginia State Bar. The Virginia State Bar is an administrative agency of the Supreme Court of Virginia. It regulates the legal profession of Virginia and assists in improving the state's legal profession and the judicial system.
