This program, sponsored by the Criminal Law Section of The Virginia Bar Association, is designed for criminal defense attorneys willing to accept appointment in capital cases. Part-time and full-time prosecutors may not attend the workshop, even though part of their practice may include court-appointed cases for criminal defendants.

The Virginia Law Foundation provides financial assistance that allows this workshop to be presented with only a nominal charge to registrants to cover expenses over and above grant funding.

This year's program seeks to provide 11 hours of MCLE credits, including 2 Ethics. Over the course of two days, attendees will hear notable speakers discuss pertinent cases and issues in Criminal Law.
The workshop provides the minimum of ten hours of specialized capital defense training, as required by § 19.2-163.8(B) of the Virginia Code. The conference begins Thursday with afternoon CLE programs. The conference continues on Friday for a full day of programming. Refreshments are provided throughout the two days, and attendees will receive a boxed lunch on Friday.
