VBA Leadership Series to Debut at Annual Meeting
Thursday, January 15, 2015
The best lawyers are effective leaders in their legal practices and in their communities.
Recognizing this, the VBA is launching the VBA Leadership Series. It will offer practical and inspirational programs that assist young lawyers in developing leadership skills and becoming influential citizen-lawyers.
The series kicks off Jan. 23 during the 125th VBA Annual Meeting at the Williamsburg Lodge in Williamsburg. The topic: "Taking Control of Your Career: Why Good Lawyers Must be Leaders." Meeting registration is required to attend.
VBA President-elect Harry M. "Pete" Johnson III will moderate a discussion with two of Virginia most outstanding lawyer-leaders. They are Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring and Denise F. Keane, Executive Vice President and General Counsel at Altria Group Inc.
The Attorney General got his start in public service as the town attorney for Lovettsville, then as a member of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors. He also served eight years in Virginia's Senate. Ms. Keane previously worked for Philip Morris USA and Philip Morris Cos. as senior vice president and general counsel. Among other public service positions, she serves on the Board of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity.
