Young Lawyers Division Honors Two Members for Superior Efforts

The VBA Young Lawyers Division recognized two members during the 126th Annual Meeting in Williamsburg in January 2016:
- Christopher M. Gill , a partner at Christian & Barton L.L.P. in Richmond, for the division’s highest honor for persistent and dedicated efforts for a young lawyer throughout his years in the YLD, and
- Laura Golden Liff, an associate attorney at Miles & Stockbridge P.C. in Tysons Corner, for superior service and enthusiasm during 2015.
The 2015 chair of the Young Lawyers Division, Nupur S. Bal, thanked every young lawyer who worked to ensure the public service objectives of the division went off without a hitch. On behalf of the YLD, she presented the awards:
Laura Golden Liff of Northern Virginia received the Emerson G. Spies Award for enthusiasm, loyalty and dedication to the VBA in a given year.
“This year’s award recipient is truly deserving of the honor. She worked days and many nights to further pro bono efforts, create enthusiasm and vigor in Northern Virginia, and give her ‘all’ every step of the way,” Bal said at the banquet. “I’m excited to see where her path takes her and I predict she will enjoy many successes within the YLD community.”
Christopher M. Gill received the Sandra P. Thompson Award for long-term outstanding service.
"Persistent, dedicated and loyal is exactly how I would describe this year's recipient,” Bal said. “Chris Gill has been an active, integral part of the YLD. He was instrumental in the launch of Legal Food Frenzy many years ago and has been there to foster its continued successes. In addition to that, Chris has served in many roles on the YLD. If there is a need, Chris will volunteer to fill it. If there is a dearth, Chris will find a way to replenish. If there is a problem, Chris will solve it. And so tonight, I am so pleased that there is an award that recognizes his dedication and brilliance and I'm the lucky one to award it.”
