"Success at the Workplace: Advice for Diverse Attorneys and Law Students" is a recording of a one-hour informational webinar presented in February 2015 by the VBA Young Lawyers Division and Blank Rome LLP.
Panelists cover the law school experience in detail, discussing the importance of each year in law school and how students can begin to set themselves up for a rewarding legal career. The presenters additionally provided advice on how to make a memorable impression during internships and summer jobs and the best way to, ultimately, secure a great reference or job offer.
The presentation also focuses on the career of diverse young lawyers and how to stand out in the workplace, particularly given the competitiveness of the legal market. One participant asked how young lawyers can effectively market themselves to a broader array of employers when their experience is limited to a niche area of the law. The panelists emphasized the importance of taking every opportunity that appears, even if that opportunity was for part-time work.
Presenters are Abrar Azamuddin, who joined the Virginia Office of the Attorney General in May 2014; Elaina Blanks-Green, a general tax attorney for 12 years working at Norfolk Southern Corp.; and Monica McCarroll, Of Counsel at Redgrave LLP, who has extensive experience as a trial attorney.
Law students who registered to participate in the live webinar hailed from law schools at George Washington, University of Virginia, Georgetown, Washington and Lee, Regent, Appalachian, George Mason, William & Mary, Fordham and Cardozo universities.
