The Criminal Law Section, the members of which include judges, prosecutors and defenders, monitors pending criminal legislation and recommends positions on that legislation to the VBA Executive Committee. From time to time, the Section initiates legislation.

The Section has sponsored the Capital Defense Workshop, a two-day CLE event for capital defenders, for 14 years. In addition, the Section usually presents a CLE program at either the Summer or Annual Meeting of the Association.
