The Wills, Trusts
& Estates Section of The Virginia Bar Association was established in
1988 and pursues an effective and recognized program of law reform activities
in that area of law. The Section has compiled the popular handbook, A
Guide to the Administration of Decedents' Estates in Virginia, and participates
in the annual Advanced Estate Planning and Administration Seminar. The Section
also presents continuing legal education programs at VBA Annual and Summer
Meetings.
Our Section has two main committees, a CLE Committee and a Legislative Committee. The primary focus of our Section is to identify the need for reform of laws affecting the wills, trusts and estates practice, prepare draft legislation, secure patrons for such legislation and lobby for its passage. Traditionally, our Section has been responsible for the passage of more legislation in the Virginia General Assembly than any other section of The Virginia Bar Association. Immediately following each legislative session, the Wills, Trusts & Estates Section distributes to its members a summary of action taken by the legislature which pertains to trusts and estates. |
