Dear Fellow Members:
I sincerely hope you will be able to set aside the July 15-18 weekend to attend the VBA Summer Meeting at The Homestead. We have tried to provide you and your family with a few days of welcome retreat, combined with an opportunity to enjoy friendly and intellectually stimulating conversation, as well as several superb social activities.
In addition, we have planned a number of timely and engaging general session programs, including the U.S. Supreme Court Program traditionally presented during the annual Judicial Conference of the Fourth Circuit, in which nationally recognized
Constitutional scholars will review decisions from the U.S. Supreme Court’s most recent session. Another general session program entitled “The Virginia Death Penalty: There is More Than Just the Concept” will be of interest to members, spouses, and guests alike. And yet another general session program dealing with conflicts with clients will fulfill the yearly MCLE ethics requirement. There will also be our usual wide array of concurrent CLE programming on both Friday and Saturday focusing on topics

of particular interest to specific practice areas. A time to unwind, to learn, to be with family, and to gather with old friends and make new ones - that is what the VBA
Summer Meeting is all about. I look forward to seeing you there.

Sincerely,
E. Tazewell Ellett
President

Banquet Entertainment!

After-dinner entertainment during our Friday evening black-tie banquet will come from the world’s only authentic recreation of William Shakespeare’s theatre, Blackfriars Playhouse in Staunton. Organized by renowned constitutional authority A.E. Dick Howard of the University of Virginia Law School, panelists include Akhil Amar of Yale Law School; Steve Calabresi of Northwestern School of Law, a co-founder of the Federalist Society; John Jeffries, Dean of the University of Virginia School of Law; and Nadine Strossen of New York Law School, President of the American Civil Liberties Union.
