Join Jane Marum Roush, justice of the Supreme Court of Virginia, and Daniel E. Ortiz, a Fairfax Circuit judge,  and Get to Know the VBA over drinks and hors d'oeuvres at The Auld Shebeen in Fairfax on Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Food and drinks will be provided at no charge by the VBA Young Lawyers Division, which sponsors more than 40 activities and projects across the state to support communities and improve access to justice.

About the special guests

Justice Roush joined the state's highest court this year. Before that, she served as a judge of the Fairfax County Circuit Court since 1993. From 1981 to 1993 she practiced with two Northern Virginia law firms. She is a graduate of Wellesley College and the University of Virginia School of Law. A VBA member since 1982, she is a former member of its Board of Governors. While a circuit judge, her annual CLE presentations reviewing the year's civil decisions of the Supreme Court of Virginia at the VBA Summer Meeting drew high attendance.

Daniel E. Ortiz, Fairfax Circuit Court judgeJudge Ortiz joined the bench  this year. He worked 10 years at Blankingship & Keith, P.C., during which he also served as a substitute judge for four years. He started his career as a law clerk for M. Langhorne Keith in the 19th Judicial Circuit of Virginia. Ortiz is a graduate of the University of Virginia and the George Washington University Law School. He has been involved in the VBA since 2002 and chairs the Judicial Section. He held most leadership positions in the Young Lawyers Division (YLD), including chair in 2012, and implemented several lasting programs. The YLD honored Ortiz with awards for long-term outstanding service and for enthusiasm, loyalty and dedication to the VBA in a given year.
