What to Expect

The Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities, along with The Virginia Bar Association's Young Lawyer Division, Public Service Committee, and the Old Dominion Bar Association present a series of programs to advance inclusion in the legal profession. This interactive workshop will focus on increasing awareness of unconscious bias and microaggressions. The sessions will help attorneys foster relationships characterized by respect and appreciation for difference.  Leave the programs with enhanced knowledge in diversity awareness and bias reduction with the motivation and skills necessary to continue working on these issues.

Sessions are limited to 50 participants. Please register in advance to secure your spot.

Objectives

By the end of the program, participants will:

  • Gain an increased understanding of unconscious bias and microaggressions;
  • Examine the role of prejudice and advantage, and how these dynamics impact their work; and
  • Consider actions to increase inclusion and equity within their field.

Methodology

The training program offers learning in both the cognitive and affective domains by impacting:

  • The Head: Sessions offer theory an models for understanding inclusion and discrimination and deep levels. Theoretical underpinnings are based on the most up-to-date educational research.
