As you know, the Legal Food Frenzy (LFF) is the VBA’s premier statewide charitable event. Because of your dedication and support over the last 13 years, the VBA has donated over 18 million pounds to Virginia’s Food Banks.  Unfortunately, this year’s traditional Legal Food Frenzy was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but our food banks need our help more than ever.

September is Hunger Action Month, which is when the food banks and their partners come together to advocate for strong nutrition programs and to raise awareness around food insecurity. Starting today and for the entire month of September, we are proud to introduce LFF 2020 Redux – an opportunity for the legal community as individuals to continue our partnership with Virginia’s Food Banks and demonstrate our commitment to ensuring all Virginians have enough to eat in these unprecedented times.

Before the pandemic, Virginia’s Food Banks served nearly one million people on an annual basis. With high unemployment, skyrocketing food prices, diminished access to school meals, and uncertain federal benefits, Virginia’s Food Banks anticipate a 50% increase in the number of people experiencing food insecurity over the course of the next year.  A recent study from Northwestern University Institute for Policy Research estimates that Virginia food insecurity increased from 9.4% in February to 22% in June.

As food banks across the state prepare for unprecedented levels of hunger through the fall and winter months, we hope you will consider donating to your local food bank by clicking on the button below:

To make certain we accurately track donations, please be sure to provide your organizational affiliation when making your donation.

Special thanks to McGuireWoods LLP for a $5,000 sponsorship and Troutman Pepper for a $3,000 sponsorship, and to the following donors for their generous offer to match donations from their organizations:
