At 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, audiences of the WCVE Forum heard "The End of Greatness? The Future of the American Presidency."

The presentation was organized by the VBA Committee on Special Issues of National & State Importance and was recorded at the 126th Summer Meeting in July.

Author and historian Aaron David Miller at the 2016 VBA Summer MeetingAuthor and historian Aaron David Miller served as the keynote speaker, presenting the thesis of his book, "The End of Greatness: Why America Can't Have (and Doesn't Want) Another Great President." His premise was cross-examined by a panel consisting of Wyatt Andrews, a former CBS News national correspondent and University of Virginia media studies professor; and Russell L. Riley, co-chair of the Presidential Oral History Program at the University of Virginia's Miller Center of Public Affairs and U.Va. associate professor. Connie J. Doebele, retired senior producer of C-SPAN, moderated. Audience Q&A followed.

The welcome and introductions were given by David Craig Landin, chair of the committee, and former Gov. Gerald L. Baliles, program chair.

Is presidential greatness overrated? Listen, and consider the evidence.

The VBA shared a recording of the session with WCVE-FM for broader dissemination as a community service, as it has in the past with VBA-sponsored debates of statewide candidates.

The program ran on the WCVE Forum at 6 p.m. Oct. 23. It was heard in the Richmond and Tri-Cities areas on 88.9 FM, in Heathsville on WCNV at 89.1 FM, and in Chase City on 90.1 FM, WMVE.
