VBA member William W. Sharp received the 2017 Harry L. Carrico Outstanding Career Service Award during the Judicial Conference of Virginia for District Courts this month.

The Judicial Council of Virginia bestowed the award on the presiding judge in Warren County and Winchester/Frederick Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Courts.

The honor is presented annually to a Virginia judge "who, over an extended career, has demonstrated exceptional leadership in the administration of the courts while exhibiting the traits of integrity, courtesy, impartiality, wisdom and humility," according to a news release from the Supreme Court of Virginia.

Appointed to the bench in 1994, Judge Sharp is serving his fourth term as a judge in the 26th Judicial District. He served as chief judge of the 26th District Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Courts from 1998 to 2007. He is lead judge of the Warren County Best Practices Group and has served on numerous committees of the Judicial Conference of Virginia for District Courts.

The Carrico award memorializes the longest serving chief justice and the longest serving member in the history of the Supreme Court of Virginia.
