The VBA Mourns the Passing of John F. Kay Jr.

John F. "Jack" Kay Jr., president of the VBA in 1982 and a Life Member of the association, died Aug. 13 after a brief illness. He was 84.

According to his obituary, Mr. Kay spent nearly his entire legal career at Denny, Valentine and Davenport in Richmond, which became Mays and Valentine and later Troutman Sanders.

He was a graduate of Washington and Lee University and its law school.

In addition to his VBA involvement, Mr. Kay served as president of The Virginia Board of Bar Examiners, president of the Washington and Lee Law School Association, chairman of the Board of Trustees of Collegiate Schools and president of the Richmond First Club, according to the obituary. He was a Fellow of The American College of Trial Lawyers and of The American Bar Foundation and a member of the Judicial Conference of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

Visitation is Sunday, Aug. 17, and a memorial service is planned for Monday, Aug. 18.
