The American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) has announced that Yvonne C. McGhee, executive director of The Virginia Bar Association, was recently renewed as a Certified Association Executive (CAE).

The CAE is the highest professional credential in the association industry. Less than 5 percent of all association professionals have earned the CAE designation. McGhee passed the CAE exam in 2013, and this is her second renewal.

To be designated as a Certified Association Executive, an applicant must have a minimum of three years of experience in nonprofit organization management, complete at least 100 hours of specialized professional development, pass an examination in association management, and pledge to uphold a code of ethics.

To maintain the certification, individuals must undertake a minimum of 40 hours of ongoing professional development featuring classes or volunteer activities in association and nonprofit management. More than 4,100 association professionals hold the CAE credential. The CAE program is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
