Business Law Section
Mark Webb, deputy general counsel with Dominion Resources Inc., Sean Ducharme of Hunton & Williams LLP and Coby Beck of Troutman Sanders LLP shared a panel on managing transaction risk at the VBA Summer Meeting.

The Business Law Section addresses a wide range of issues of concern to business lawyers and their clients. In particular, the Section deals with all aspects of capital raising under federal and state blue sky law; the Virginia Stock Corporation Act; the Revised Uniform Partnership Act; the Limited Partnership Act; laws governing Limited Liability Companies, Limited Liability Partnerships and other new forms of business entities. It also deals with issues arising under the Uniform Commercial Code and other issues (including ethics) of general interest to transactional lawyers in Virginia.

The Section often partners with other sections, including the Taxation Section, the Corporate Counsel Section and the Criminal Law Section, in presenting CLE programs.

Recent programs have included the following topics:

Legal Opinions Committee

The VBA Business Law Section Council and the VBA Real Estate Section Council established the Legal Opinions Committee of The Virginia Bar Association as a standing committee to serve business practitioners who are called upon to deliver legal opinions in connection with M&A, loan and other commercial transactions. Membership on the Legal Opinions Committee is open to any member in good standing of the VBA Business Law Section or the VBA Real Estate Section.
