Which VBA membership is best for you?

Membership for most anyone

Includes automatic enrollment in the VBA’s Law Practice Management Division

Regular – For lawyers beyond their fifth anniversary of licensure in any state, $300 a year.

Memberships for young lawyers and new lawyers

Includes automatic enrollment in the VBA’s award-winning Young Lawyers Division and the Law Practice Management Division

Young Lawyer 6+ Years – For lawyers under age 40 beyond their fifth anniversary of licensure in any state, includes membership in the VBA’s award-winning Young Lawyers Division, $300 a year

Young Lawyer 1-5 Years – For lawyers of any age in their first five years of licensure in any state, includes membership in the VBA’s award-winning Young Lawyers Division, $225 a year

New Admittee – Free membership for lawyers in their first year of licensure

Special memberships

Includes automatic enrollment in the VBA’s Law Practice Management Division

Judicial – For a sitting judge, $150 a year

Government – For a lawyer employed in a government agency or court system, $150 a year

Law School – For a lawyer employed full time in a law school as a legal educator or law school administrator, $150 a year

Nonprofit – For a lawyer employed full time by a nonprofit organization or by a group providing free or reduced-cost legal services for clients in need, $150 a year

Retired – For a lawyer no longer engaged in the practice of law, $150 a year

Law Student – Free membership for a student enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school, reading the law in Virginia according to a VBBE-compliant program of study or preparing for initial licensure

Membership dues are not deductible as a charitable contribution but may be deductible as an ordinary and necessary business expense. The VBA estimates that 12% of basic dues support lobbying activities as defined by Section 13222 of the Revenue Reconciliation Act of 1993. Therefore, 88% of your dues may be deductible.
