The Federation of Virginia Food Banks has released the winners of the 17th Annual Legal Food Frenzy. Held April 17-28, the event is a friendly competition among legal offices to raise food and funds to support the needs of Virginians who are food insecure.

The contest was created in partnership with the Virginia attorney general, the Federation of Virginia Food Banks and the Young Lawyers Division of The Virginia Bar Association. Since it was launched statewide in 2007, more than 20 million pounds of food have been donated.

Winners among the more than 150 participating law offices are named in total donations as well as high totals raised per employee or student based on the total amount raised overall.

Awards will be presented in June at a reception at the Office of the Attorney General in Richmond.

The 2023 winners in each category and the food bank represented, according to the Federation of Virginia Food Banks, follow:

Attorney General's Cup, for the firm donating the most per employee

The Law Office of James Steele PLLC - Feeding Southwest VA

This is at least the third consecutive year for this law office to capture the top prize.

Government and Public Service category

Per capita: Smyth County Commonwealth's Attorney Office - Feeding Southwest VA

Total: Office of the Attorney General - Feed More

Corporate Legal Department category

Per capita: The First Bank and Trust Company - Feeding Southwest VA

Total: Dominion Energy - Feed More

Law School category

Per capita and Total: Appalachian School of Law - Feeding Southwest VA

2023 marks the second consecutive year ASL won in both elements of the law school category.

Large Firm category

Per capita: Hirschler - Feed More

This is the second consecutive year Hirschler won in the per capital category.

Total: McGuireWoods LLP - Richmond - Feed More

This is at least the third consecutive year McGuireWoods has won in the total category.
