The VBA Young Lawyers Division (YLD) connects lawyers who are new to practice with opportunities for peer fellowship, professional growth and meaningful engagement with experienced attorneys and judges. Consistently recognized by the American Bar Association for excellence in programming, the quarterly news letter, service to the public and service to the bar, the YLD offers a strong foundation for early-career success. VBA members under 40 years of age and those in their first five years of licensure are automatically enrolled at no additional cost. Law students are also included for a head start on career development and professional relationships.

Promote statewide service initiatives like the Legal Food Frenzy and the Lawyer Wellness Challenge

Represent the VBA to Virginia law students by organizing a regional round in the National Moot Court competition or by assisting a VBA Law School Council
- Educate high school students about the legal system at the Model Judiciary program by coordinating mock trials with real judges, in partnership with Virginia YMCA.
Leadership
The Executive Board meets quarterly to oversee the governance and business of the YLD. Contact any member of the Executive Board to discuss how you can get involved in the YLD.
Awards
The YLD presents two awards each year. The Sandra P. Thompson award for outstanding work and long-term service, and the Emerson G. Spies award for enthusiasm, loyalty and dedication in the work of the VBA.
