The Virginia Bar Association

We’re proud of the VBA’s tradition of leadership and service since 1888. So much has changed in our profession and in our association since then, and we’re always looking forward—but leadership and service will remain pillars of the VBA mission.

The lawyers listed below have volunteered their time and talent to the VBA and have provided living examples of that mission for our members, the legal community and the public.

The VBA Presidency is a multi-year commitment. Before going on the leadership ladder, a VBA President first must have served at least two years on the Board of Governors. After standing for election by the Board as its Chair, the President will hold that office for a year, followed by a year as President-Elect.

VBA Presidents continue to serve even after they pass the gavel to their successors. The Immediate Past President chairs the VBA’s governance committee, the group that identifies the association's new Board class each year; three other Past Presidents serve on the committee to ensure continuity. VBA Past Presidents of all generations convene at statewide meetings to stay in touch with the current leadership of the VBA.

The Virginia Bar Association is grateful to all who lead and especially to our Presidents for their service, dedication and leadership. When you meet the VBA President or a Past President, we hope you will thank her or him, too.

Living VBA Presidents are shown in boldface.
