Here's what's new with VBA members. They're in demand and recognized inside and outside the VBA.

Women's Legal Professional Retreat speakers

Five members are speaking in Roanoke this week at the 2024 Women's Legal Professional Retreat, of which the VBA is a partner. They are:

Hetal Challa, wellness coordinator of the Office of the Executive Secretary of the Supreme Court of Virginia. Her topic is "A Solo Practitioner's Toolbox: Healthy Habits to Build a Successful Legal Practice.

Kristen Jurjevich, shareholder with Pender & Coward, PC, and Jennifer Ligon, partner with Williams Mullen. They will address "Balancing Act - Navigating Being a Caregiver While Maintaining a Legal Career."

Judge Doris Henderson Causey with the Court of Appeals of Virginia and Judge Helivi Holland with the General District Court for the 5th Judicial District. They will discuss "Mentorship for Women in the Law."

Bar Leaders Institute speaker

Jeremy S. Williams of Kutak Rock in Richmond is on the agenda to talk March 8 about engaging younger attorneys in bar associations at the Bar Leaders Institute of the Virginia State Bar Conference of Local and Specialty Bar Associations. Williams was the 2017 VBA Young Lawyers Division chair.

Virginia Law Foundation Fellows

VBA members were among the Class of 2024 Fellows of the Virginia Law Foundation. Fellows, nominated confidentially by their peers, are recognized as leaders not only in the legal professional but also in their communities. Inducted in January were:

The 2024 president-elect of the Virginia Law Foundation is VBA member Stephen E. Noona with Kaufman & Canoles, P.C., in Norfolk. The immediate past president is retired Justice Jane Marum Roush with The McCammon Group, Ltd.

Additionally, two members joined the foundation board. They are Darius K. Davenport Sr. with Crenshaw, Ware & Martin, P.L.C., in Norfolk and Robert F. Redmon Jr. with McGuireWoods LLP in Richmond.

Gubernatorial appointment

Meade Browder, senior assistant attorney general in the Office of the Attorney General, was appointed by Gov. Glenn Youngkin to the Commerce and Trade Clean Energy Advisory Board.

In memoriam

Life Member Harry J. Warthen III died Feb. 20 at his home. He was 84. Mr. Warthen practiced law at what is now Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP for 36 years. He was a former chair of the VBA Wills, Trusts & Estates Section. Read his obituary.
