Henry P. Custis Jr., a VBA member since 1971 and a Life Member since 2016, is the recipient of the 2023 Tradition of Excellence Award from the General Practice Section of the Virginia State Bar. The honor will be presented at the VSB Annual Meeting in June.

The Tradition of Excellence Award recognizes a Virginia attorney who embodies the highest tradition of personal and professional excellence and enhances the image of attorneys in the commonwealth.

Custis, a partner with Custis, Dix, Lewis & Custis, LLP, in Accomac, has spent more than 50 years as a general practice attorney. He is a fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation and has volunteered prolifically in his community and in the legal profession.

Life Members in the VBA are those with 40 years of continuous membership and are at least 70 years of age.

Grayson S. Johnson of Johnson & Johnson Attorneys at Law, P.C., in Rockville nominated Custis for the award.
