Anita O. Poston, who served as president of The Virginia Bar Association in 2000, will receive the William R. Rakes Leadership in Education Award at the Virginia State Bar Annual Meeting in June.
The honor recognizes exceptional leadership and vision in improving legal education and advancing professionalism. It is given by the VSB Section on the Education of Lawyers in Virginia.
Poston is a principal in the Norfolk office of Woods Rogers Vandeventer Black PLC.
She has served on the Virginia Board of Bar Examiners since 1990 and as its president since 2021. Poston also was appointed by Virginia governors to the Virginia State Board for Community Colleges and to the board of visitors of the College of William & Mary.
She was nominated for the award by Davison M. Douglas, former dean of the William & Mary Law School.
