Leigh B. Middleditch Jr., who joined the VBA in 1957 and was involved in the Boyd-Graves Conference, died Oct. 3, 2021. He was 92.

Before retirement, he was a partner with McGuire, Woods, Battle, and Boothe in Charlottesville. He taught business law and Virginia procedure at the University of Virginia.

Mr. Middleditch co-wrote the first edition of Virginia Civil Procedure with professor Kent Sinclair.

He served as an adviser to the Virginia Code Commission during the 1977 transition of the Code of Civil Procedure from Title 8 to Title 8.01. His fellow advisers were T. Munford Boyd and Edward S. Graves. All three worked closely in the formative years of what became known as the Boyd-Graves Conference to improve the quality of civil justice in Virginia. That mission has continued for more than 40 years. At one time, Mr. Middleditch served as the group's leader.

The VBA provides administrative support to the Boyd-Graves Conference and the association's Civil Litigation Section can recommend topics for study.
