Judge Junius P. Fulton III of the Virginia Court of Appeals is the apparent choice of the General Assembly for a pending seat on the Supreme Court of Virginia.

The combined Senate and House of Delegates Courts of Justice committees have scheduled judicial interviews for tomorrow, April 1, at 3 p.m. Fulton is the only candidate listed as interviewing for the position.

If elected, he would take the seat currently held by Chief Justice S. Bernard Goodwyn, who is retiring from the high court at the end of the year.

The chairs of the two courts committees, Sen. Scott Surovell and Del. Patrick Hope, had asked bar groups to vet candidates for the Court of Appeals, should the assembly elect a current member of that court.

Since that appears likely to happen, the combined committees have scheduled one interview tomorrow for the appeals court, with Virginia Beach Circuit Judge Kevin M. Duffan.

And since Duffan’s elevation to the appeals court would create a vacancy on the Virginia Beach circuit bench, the committees have scheduled one interview tomorrow for that court, with Aaron F. Kass, who practices with the Kass Law Firm in Portsmouth.

The committees have other interviews set for tomorrow afternoon, including for a General District Court position in the 26th District, covering a number of cities and counties in the Virginia Valley. The interviewee is Louis K. Nagy, who practices in Harrisonburg.

Two candidates for two different General District Court judgeships in Fairfax will be interviewed -- Andrew T. Elders of the Public Defender’s office and Tamika D. Jones of Jones Practice PLLC in Alexandria.

And Kara L. Larson, who practices in Orange, will interview for a Juvenile & Domestic Relations judgeship in the 16th District, which covers Charlottesville, Orange County and seven other nearby counties.

Updated to include additional judgeships listed in the committees’ schedule.
