Richmond-based lawyer, others take leadership roles
in statewide voluntary bar organization

The Virginia Bar Association installed Kimberlee Harris Ramsey as its 2025 president Jan. 25 during its Annual Meeting in Williamsburg. Ramsey is president of FloranceGordonBrown, PC, and leads the Richmond-based firm’s family law practice.

Ramsey is the VBA’s 137th president. She succeeds W. Ryan Snow, a former managing partner of Crenshaw, Ware & Martin, P.L.C., in Norfolk. Snow now serves as immediate past president of the VBA, the largest statewide voluntary organization of lawyers and judges in Virginia.

In front of all past VBA presidents in attendance and with meeting participants looking on, Snow administered the oath of office to Ramsey, whose daughter Ally and husband Danny were with her on stage.

Other 2025 officers

In addition to Ramsey and Snow, two other members begin one-year terms as VBA officers. They are:

• Lonnie D. “Chip” Nunley III, a partner with Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP in Richmond, as president-elect and
• Nupur S. Bal, a partner with Bowen Ten Long & Bal, PC, in Richmond, as chair of the Board of Governors.

These officers and the leaders of the Young Lawyers Division, or YLD, make up the VBA Executive Committee, which meets in between quarterly board retreats. The YLD is a group of about 775 attorney members ages 40 or younger or new to legal practice. An additional 550 law student members benefit from YLD services and access. The YLD members elected a new chair and chair-elect, each for a one-year term. They are:

• Alexander Boyd, a partner with Randolph, Boyd, Cherry & Vaughan, PLC, in Richmond, as chair and
• Alicha M. Grubb, a partner with Gentry Locke Attorneys in Roanoke, as chair-elect.

New Board of Governors members

VBA members also elected four members to three-year terms on the Board of Governors. The 22-member board, with at-large and regional representatives, manages the business of the association. The newly elected members are:

• Erin Ashwell, serving at-large. She is a partner in McGuireWoods LLP’s government investigations and white-collar litigation department and is based in Roanoke;
• Matthew E. Cheek, representing the Capital Division. He chairs the financial services and real estate section for Williams Mullen in Richmond;
• S. Henry “Hank” Creasy IV, representing the Southside Division. He is a senior vice president and chief legal officer for Centra Health and lives in Lynchburg; and
• John M. Scheib, serving at-large. He is a partner in Gentry Locke Attorneys’ general commercial practice group. He is based in its Norfolk office.

Also joining the board is the new chair of the Law Practice Management Division. Jack Robb is general counsel and senior vice president at Old Dominion Electric Cooperative near Richmond.

The Board of Governors additionally appointed two new representatives to advise it on law school and government attorney matters. Starting a one-year term that can be extended for up to three years are:

• Iria Giuffrida as law school representative. She is the assistant dean for academic and faculty affairs and a professor for the practice of law at William & Mary Law School; and
• Ryan Ferguson as government representative. He is director of administration and general counsel for the Virginia Attorney General’s office.

A new ex officio member of the board is Steven D. Brown, a partner in IslerDare PC’s Richmond office. He takes on a three-year term as VBA general counsel.
