Nupur S. Bal, a partner with Bowen Ten Long & Bal, PC, in Richmond, will be expanding her leadership duties in The Virginia Bar Association. She will become chair of the VBA Board of Governors in January 2025.

VBA President W. Ryan Snow announced the news regarding Bal, a Board of Governors at-large representative, at the Summer Meeting banquet at The Omni Homestead Resort.

“This is big news that affects the future of the VBA,” he said in prefacing the announcement.

“Every year, the VBA Board of Governors selects one member of the board to go on the leadership ladder as chair of the board. This position historically is the first step in a three-year path to service as president of the association, so it is critically important,” Snow said.

The board often selects that person at its fall meeting.

“This year, the board has acted a bit quicker, which gives us the opportunity to make this announcement here at the Summer Meeting,” said Snow, the former managing partner at Crenshaw, Ware & Martin, P.L.C., in Norfolk. “Please join me in congratulating Nupur. We look forward to welcoming her to the VBA leadership.”

Bal has been a member of the VBA since 2007. She was elected chair of the Young Lawyers Division for 2015 and received the Sandra B. Thompson award for outstanding work and longtime service to the YLD in 2016. Last year, Bal was elected to the VBA Board of Governors. A practitioner of family law, she is a member of the VBA Domestic Relations Section. She also actively serves her community through civic involvement in several organizations.

Snow became board chair in 2022, followed by Kimberlee Harris Ramsey, who is president-elect. Lonnie D. “Chip” Nunley III is board chair this year.
