A VBA resolution recognizes Life Member David Craig Landin for his many contributions -- to his clients, his alma mater, the legal community, The Virginia Bar Association and in particular his leadership of its Committee on Special Issues of National & State Importance.

The resolution, drafted by the Board of Governors on behalf of Landin's colleagues throughout Virginia, was read in front of the audience at the Annual Meeting banquet this month.

Landin, whose legal career has spanned five decades, served as VBA president in 1999. The resolution also notes that Landin led the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys and the Virginia Law Foundation, among other committees and commissions.

The resolution continues:

"WHEREAS, David Craig Landin has devoted many long hours and good works on behalf of his beloved Alma Mater the University of Virginia, from which he received both his Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctorate, alongside his works on behalf of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation and Monticello Board, among his many civic engagements;

"WHEREAS, a major part of his long shadow of service rests with his chairmanship of the VBA’s Committee on Special Issues of National and State Importance, assembling experts of varied vocations and patterning programs showcasing emerging issues affecting the legal profession, the Commonwealth and foundational civic functions;

"WHEREAS, while he has already been recognized by the VBA, who in 2013 honored him with the Walker Award of Merit for exceptional leadership in the Bar, the Board of Governors submits the service of David Craig Landin deserves further recognition, as his tenure over the Committee on Special Issues of National and State Importance continually showed us how deliberate consideration of tough issues can be duly considered and harnessed for the good;

"NOW THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED by The Virginia Bar Association's Board of Governors that on behalf of The Virginia Bar Association’s members, and on behalf of colleagues throughout this Commonwealth, we extend our gratitude and recognition to David Craig Landin, for these services and for exemplifying the ideals of the citizen lawyer and Virginian."
