Technology is changing the face of law practice. The Virginia Bar Association is helping Virginia lawyers and law firms learn to safely and ethically embrace artificial intelligence and other new tools that can improve law practice efficiency.

VBA Model AI Policy for Law Firms

The VBA Committee on Small-Firm and Solo Practice unveiled a model policy for AI use by law firms. It is believed to be the first such model policy adopted by a bar association in America. The policy was presented to lawyers statewide in a free webinar explaining its provisions with a nod to legal ethics rules. It also was published in the VBA Journal.

VBA Task Force on AI

The VBA Board of Directors established the VBA Task Force on Artificial Intelligence in April 2024. This multiyear effort is charged with assessing the growing impact of AI on our profession and helping our members stay at the forefront of AI best practices and ethical compliance.

We will report updates of the task force's work on this page as the group goes forward.
